It is as if Instagram wasn’t hard enough, now they added a snapchat 2.0 that we need to keep up with. Instagram stories are confusing and sometimes feels worthless, but fear not! We are here to give you some tips and ideas to make sure you are making most of your stories.
Keep it Short!
The first rule is to keep them short and sweet. Don’t post 40 million pictures on your story, NO ONE CARES. People will just tap through them OR WORSE mute you. I personally would say 5 posts on stories is fairly safe. Think of it this way, “would I care about this when I am scrolling through my social media.” If the answer is no, don’t post it.
Give a Tease
Make them work for it. Imagine your crush is watching your stories. You don’t want to show them everything, but rather get them excited for what is to come 😉Similarly, when you have a new post on your Instagram, notify your followers on your story. Show your post on your story, but cover it up so that people are inclined to go to your Instagram profile and actually see the post. Keeps the people engaged while also giving you an idea of how many of your followers are actually active.
I know this sounds scary, but it is worth it. Instagram live is effective because 1) instagram notifies your followers when you go live 2) you can virtually engage with your followers 3) you get a better understanding of what your followers want. Instagram live can be a great way to get your message across clearly and effectively, show the behind the scenes of all the hard work you are doing, and add a little more personality and creativity!
Another great feature is Instagram highlights! Since stories only last for 24 hours, you can highlight them so people can go back and see your old stories. Basically, you can categorize your stories and have them saved to your Instagram profile as highlights so that it is always there for people to look at. A great way for people to look at what you have done without having to go through your entire Instagram profile.
Social media platforms are constantly adapting to what the current trends and interests are. Right now people want content quickly which is why features like stories work so well. It’s not the easiest thing to get used to, but these tips should be a little help.
